Report a stolen trailer or float
Box trailers, car floats and horse floats are easy to hitch and disappear, and turn up quickly on local marketplaces. VIN and any custom features are the fastest way to spot yours.
The identifier that gets it back: VIN / chassis number
Stamped on the drawbar or chassis and printed on your rego. Note custom cages, ramps or paintwork.

How theft and resale play out
- Trailers are hitched and gone in seconds, then re-listed within days.
- Compliance plates are swapped — custom cages and welds are harder to disguise.
- Common enough that a clear photo of yours is what separates it from the crowd.
If yours is already gone
- Report it to police and keep the event/reference number.
- Register the trailer or float on Theftsight (or mark it stolen) with the vin / chassis number and photos.
- Share the record with your insurer — they can work the same candidate queue.
- If a listing matches, export the proof pack — never confront a seller alone.

Register it in two minutes — private by default. If it's stolen, Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace and eBay are scanned against it, and police and insurers on the network can see the case.
