Report a stolen motorbike or scooter
Motorbikes, dirt bikes and scooters are quick to take and quick to list. VIN and engine number, plus a photo of any damage or mods, are what make a recovered bike provably yours.
The identifier that gets it back: VIN / engine number
VIN on the steering-head or frame; engine number on the crankcase. Both are on your rego — record them separately.

How theft and resale play out
- Dirt bikes are commonly sold with 'no rego, paddock use' cover stories.
- Fairings, exhausts and wheels are stripped and listed individually.
- A photographed engine number beats a filed-off frame VIN for proving ownership.
If yours is already gone
- Report it to police and keep the event/reference number.
- Register the motorbike or scooter on Theftsight (or mark it stolen) with the vin / engine number and photos.
- Share the record with your insurer — they can work the same candidate queue.
- If a listing matches, export the proof pack — never confront a seller alone.

Put your motorbike or scooter under watch
Register it in two minutes — private by default. If it's stolen, Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace and eBay are scanned against it, and police and insurers on the network can see the case.
