Watches and jewellery are small, high-value and quick to on-sell. Serials, engravings, hallmarks and valuation photos are what let you prove a recovered piece is yours.

Luxury watches carry a serial between the lugs or on the caseback and papers. For jewellery, record hallmarks, engravings and any valuation certificate.

How theft and resale play out

- Report it to police and keep the event/reference number.
- Register the watch or jewellery item on Theftsight (or mark it stolen) with the serial / engraving and photos.
- Share the record with your insurer — they can work the same candidate queue.
